Delhi Capital of India & its History
Delhi is
Capital of Independent India. Historically Delhi is capital of Present India or
Bharat, many times. It first became
capital during Mahabharta era, when Pandavas made it capital. During time of Pandavas, Delhi was situated
at Old fort and its Periphery. At that time Delhi was named Indraprastha by
Pandavas. Delhi remained capital of
Hindu Kingdom for thousands of years. It
is presumed that Delhi got its name from a renowned king Dilli. And its old name was Dilli only. But from time to time Name got changed and it
assumed its present name of Delhi During British Era when they changed capital
of India from Kolkata to Delhi. And
After Independence Delhi was named New Delhi.

The Muslim kings i.e. slave
dynasty and Moghul dynasty also made it, there capital. But at that time it was situated around old Delhi
or around walled city. During the rule
of Slave dynasty rulers of
that dynasty “Qutabudin Aibak and Altumush made capital around Mehruli and
Qutab Minar. Mohamad-bin-Tughlak made
capital around Tughlakabad. Though for
some time he shifted it to Fatehpur Sikri, a place near Agra.
Then when Lodhi Dynasty came to power they made areas around Lodhi Tombs
and Lodhi Garden as their official workplaces and capital.
And present Delhi which when
ruled by Mohgul Dynasty was founded by Shah Jahan. At Red Fort there was grand Palace. Delhi of
Shah Jahan was founded near Red fort and Chandni Chowk. Chandni Chowk used to have a beautiful lake
during the days of Shah Jahan. And from
that time it remained capital of India till the time of Bahadur Shah Jafar, the last free
king of Mugul Dynasty. After Bahadur Shah
Jafar was jailed by British and British rule came to whole India. They shifted the capital of India to Kolkota. But once again it was shifted to Delhi in
1911 and from that time to till this date Delhi is capital of India. As Indian Government of free India also
adopted New Delhi as the Capital of India.
From tourist point of View if
you want to visit historical places of Delhi then Tughlakabad fort, Qutab
Minar, Humayun’s tomb, Lodhi Garden, Red Fort and Jama Masjid will be important
places to visit.
