Delhi Capital of India & its Historical Importance

Delhi Capital of India & its History

Delhi is Capital of Independent India. Historically Delhi is capital of Present India or Bharat, many times.  It first became capital during Mahabharta era, when Pandavas made it capital.  During time of Pandavas, Delhi was situated at Old fort and its Periphery. At that time Delhi was named Indraprastha by Pandavas.  Delhi remained capital of Hindu Kingdom for thousands of years.  It is presumed that Delhi got its name from a renowned king Dilli.  And its old name was Dilli only.  But from time to time Name got changed and it assumed its present name of Delhi During British Era when they changed capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi.  And After Independence Delhi was named New Delhi.

The Muslim kings i.e. slave dynasty and Moghul dynasty also made it, there capital.  But at that time it was situated around old Delhi or around walled city.  During the rule of Slave dynasty rulers of that dynasty “Qutabudin Aibak and Altumush made capital around Mehruli and Qutab Minar.  Mohamad-bin-Tughlak made capital around Tughlakabad.  Though for some time he shifted it to Fatehpur Sikri, a place near Agra.  Then when Lodhi Dynasty came to power they made areas around Lodhi Tombs and Lodhi Garden as their official workplaces and capital.

And present Delhi which when ruled by Mohgul Dynasty was founded by Shah Jahan.  At Red Fort there was grand Palace. Delhi of Shah Jahan was founded near Red fort and Chandni Chowk.  Chandni Chowk used to have a beautiful lake during the days of Shah Jahan.  And from that time it remained capital of India till the time of Bahadur Shah Jafar, the last free king of Mugul Dynasty.  After Bahadur Shah Jafar was jailed by British and British rule came to whole India.  They shifted the capital of India to Kolkota.  But once again it was shifted to Delhi in 1911 and from that time to till this date Delhi is capital of India.  As Indian Government of free India also adopted New Delhi as the Capital of India.

From tourist point of View if you want to visit historical places of Delhi then Tughlakabad fort, Qutab Minar, Humayun’s tomb, Lodhi Garden, Red Fort and Jama Masjid will be important places to visit.

Occupying a place of pride on the international tourist calendar, more than a million visitors throng the Mela during the fortnight including thousands of foreign tourists. The Surajkund Mela is unique as it showcases the richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural fabric of India, & is the largest crafts fair in the world.

The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. For the  Surajkund International Crafts Mela, there will be one state that will be chosen as Theme State. At least 20 countries & all the states of India participate in the Mela.

A large number of renowned national and international folk artistes and cultural groups present day performances at both the Chaupals, the open-air theatres, located in the Mela premises. Also enthralling cultural evening programmes are held at the main Chaupal during each of the Mela evening. The Mela is indeed a custodian of the heritage crafts involving use of traditional skills that are fading away due to cheap machine made imitations, and a special section is earmarked for showcasing of these heritage crafts.

The multi-cuisine Food Court provides ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular with visitors. There are designated places for amusement, adventure sports and joy rides to make it a must visit event for the young.

In 2013, the fair was upgraded to an international level.

The Mela celebrates the unique diversity of Indian traditions and culture in a ambience, created to represent the ethos of rural India. Surajkund International Crafts Mela showcases some of the most exquisite handlooms and handicrafts of India. Handmade fabrics soaked in ethnic colours make an eye catching display for the visitors.

The multi-cuisine Food Courts provides ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular with visitors. The scintillating folk performances at the two ‘Chaupals’ and mesmerizing evening recitals at ‘Natyashala’ rev up the entertainment quotient. There are designated places for amusement, adventure sports and joy rides to make it a must visit event for the young.

Purpose of mela is to organise, manage and run the Surajkund International Craft Mela at Surajkund Faridabad with a view to promote handicrafts, handlooms with the aid of craftsmen invited from all over the country. And to identify languishing and lesser known crafts and to introduce them to patrons. And to display crafts and loom techniques by organising demonstration sections in the Mela grounds. And to undertake the promotion of export of handlooms and handicrafts. And to set up an environment in which rural crafts traditions could be displayed and to project the traditional rural ambience of a typical village near Delhi for travellers who may not have the time or means to visit an Indian village.

The Mela was conceived primarily to promote the pool of skilled artisans, who used indigenous technology, but were suffering due to the cheaper machine-made imitations. This is an earnest effort by Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism to provide a platform for craftspersons and wavers to directly market their wares by eliminating the middlemen.

To preserve the languishing arts & crafts of India, Surajkund Crafts Mela was hosted for the first time in 1987. The Mela ground is spread over 40 acres and houses about 1010 work huts that host craftspersons and weavers.

Surajkund International Crafts Mela offers its visitors a lifetime experience as it unfolds a wonderful range of textiles, paintings, wood stock, ivory work, pottery, terracotta, stonework, lac, cane and grass products.

How much time for receiving boarding pass?

Steps in getting boarding Pass?

One can get boarding pass in many ways.  After you had booked the ticket online.  You will have to visit airline website, generally when 24 hours are remaining, depending on the class.  You may have booked the ticket directly from airline website or you may have booked from the online travel website like ours.  Or you may have booked from office of specific travel agent.  You will have to visit airline website only, to get the boarding pass.  And that is the best way specially during this Covid-19 situation, where there are instructions to print the boarding pass online and come to the Airport.  You will get the S.M.S. from the airline when the boarding pass is available.  Different airlines have separate rules.  But generally you can start checking before 24 hours.  and almost all airlines allow before 6 hours.  Only in special circumstances they will instruct you online itself to contact airline counter at airport.

But in normal times you can get the Boarding pass from the airline counter at the Airport also, after showing you ticket and I- card.

Other choices are to print it from Boarding pass printing kiosk.  Where you will have to follow on screen instructions.  It is best to have boarding pass beforehand, there is separate queue for people who have boarding pass and just want to drop there luggage.  In that way you can avoid long queue also.  Sometimes it takes half an hour to pass through queue.
